If you need any more reasons to visit carhiretoday.co.uk then here is one more, car hire complaints are up.   According to the UK European Consumer Centre (UKECC), complaints about car hire have  increased sky rocketed in the first two quarters of this year.

Apparently the UKECC have seen an increase in the number of people calling them to complain about car hire within Europe.  The most complained about countries were Spain, Italy, France and Ireland.

Jed Mayatt, a spokesperson for the UKECC said:

“Of course, not all car hires end in tears, but consumers really do need to wise up,..”

He continued to report that people ought to get informed and take precautions when entering a contractual deal with any car hire supplier within Europe.

The press release that the UKECC released announced a rise of 29% in the number of people complaining.  This rise has occurred from within the first 2 quarters of 2010 compared to the first two quarters of 2009.

Complaints consisted of unsuspecting consumers finding charges to their credit cards weeks after their rental.  Consumers reported being charged for damage that was present on the car before they hired it, and also being charged for extra days rental for returning the car late. For these reasons it is always a good idea to get copies of the before and after damage reports suppliers are supposed to do with each rental.  Also check that the car hire company is open during the hours you are supposed to return the car and make sure you are on time.
